Adam Fletcher, the national sales manager at PI Calculator, is taking part in a marathon hockey event to help raise money for UK war veterans.
Fletcher will join a group of 26 players from 20 different hockey clubs for a gruelling ten-day trip around the UK in support of Help for Heroes. The fundraising event, called Hockey for Heroes, will see the group play 33 games of hockey against both civilian and military teams as well as climb the three Peaks Challenge.
Taking place between 21 May and 30 May, the group will start off in Liverpool and finish in Derby after travelling as far north as Ben Nevis and as far south as Fareham.
Hockey for Heroes was the brainchild of close friends Carl Woods and Gary Ryder, both of whom have served a combined 17 years in the British Army. Sharing a real passion for the military and for their chosen sport, hockey, they created an event during the summer of 2012 that would both raise funds and awareness about their chosen charity.
The organisers of Hockey for Heroes, have said that the challenge is unique.
“It will be both extremely mentally and physically challenging for the squad and nothing like this has ever been attempted before by anyone,” said the organising committee.
