BIBA 2020 theme confirmed as ‘A Year to Pioneer’

The theme of next year’s British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) conference and exhibition has been confirmed.

BIBA 2020, to be held in Manchester Central on 13 and 14 May, will follow the theme, ‘A Year to Pioneer’.

This theme was selected “to inspire the sector because the UK will be facing what could be seen as a new era”.

BIBA explained: “The changes we are facing, from a new relationship with Europe and the rest of the world; new technologies; new markets; and new sentiments are likely to force businesses to think differently. Finding solutions is what brokers do best and pioneers, by operating differently, is what BIBA intends to help brokers be.”

Steve White, chief executive officer of BIBA said: “We have been talking about change for some time and 2020 really is the year for us to overcome the new challenges we all face. Technology is an enabler and seizing its potential could help us to address the developing needs of customers.  Understanding that the world expects businesses to not only provide products and services that work, but also to embrace sustainability, wellbeing and different mindsets is essential.”

“A Year to Pioneer builds upon last year’s conference theme of leading the way, highlighting brokers’ ability to overcome issues and clear a path for others to follow.”

This year’s conference focused heavily on innovation, with what brokers and their insurer partners are doing to innovate within claims a headline topic.

A claims seminar featuring David Bonehill of Ecclesiastical, Mike Crane of LV=Broker, Damian Glynn of Sedgwick and Andrew Gibbons of Mason Owen Financial Services reflected on the customer’s claims journey, and whether it could be enhanced through fully embracing technology.
