Helen Sanson appointed as CEO of The Insurance Charity 

Helen Sanson takes the reins of The Insurance Charity following its rebrand. 

The Insurance Charity has announced the appointment of Helen Sanson as its new chief executive officer, effective from 10 March. Sanson succeeds Annali-Joy Thornicroft, who is set to retire following an extensive tenure of almost forty years with the organisation. 

The Insurance Charity, which has the tagline, “Supporting insurance people when they need us most”, offers financial support and practical guidance to insurance professionals. The change in leadership follows shortly from a rebrand, when the charity announced that it would expand its support offerings. 

Sanson joins The Insurance Charity from The Switch, where she has spent 22 years, including 12 as CEO. The Switch, founded by Lloyd’s of London in 1991, has played a pivotal role in providing employability education support for students in Tower Hamlets, London, working closely with over 30 Lloyd’s Managing Agencies. 

With a deep-rooted history of collaboration within the insurance sector, Sanson was instrumental in launching Abacus, a family financial literacy initiative supported by 200 volunteers from the Lloyd’s Market last year. 

Sanson commented, “I am excited to begin my next chapter at The Insurance Charity, a remarkable organisation that provides vital support to current and former employees from the insurance industry. What truly stood out is its commitment to helping individuals and families facing a range of challenges.

I am excited to get to know my new colleagues and the trustees as we continue this important mission together.” 

The Insurance Charity’s chairman, Joshua Brekenfeld, welcomed Sanson’s appointment, stating, “The board and I are delighted to welcome Helen to The Insurance Charity. Helen’s passion for helping those in need is matched by her strong professional credentials and deep connections within the insurance industry. She joins us at an exciting period of change, and I look forward to working with her.”
