Specialty MGA appoints industry leader to establish North American Property Treaty portfolio
Specialty MGA, the managing general agent that forms part of MNK Group, has appointed Simon Woodage as Senior Underwriter for North American Property Treaty. The appointment marks the next stage in the development of Specialty MGA’s treaty reinsurance capabilities and will see Woodage lead the build-out of its North American Property Treaty offering.
Woodage brings nearly 40 years of insurance and reinsurance industry experience, having spent most of his career focused on the North American Property Treaty market. During that time, he has held both underwriting and broking roles. This includes leading a major North American Property Treaty account at Brit Insurance, serving as Divisional Director at BMS Group managing key Property Treaty relationships, and helping establish a treaty portfolio from inception at China Re.
In his new role, Woodage will lead the development of Specialty MGA’s North American Property Treaty portfolio, shaping underwriting strategy and utilising his broad network of cedants and brokers across the market.
The portfolio will be built around long-term partnerships with companies for whom reinsurance is a core element of their business model. Specialty MGA will seek to work with insurers that value continuity, demonstrate a clear understanding of their risks and have a proven ability to outperform within their specialist areas of the market.
Manoj Kumar, Chairman of MNK Group, said:
“Simon brings exceptional experience and market knowledge, combined with perspectives gained from both underwriting and broking. His track record of building successful North American Property Treaty portfolios and developing strong market relationships makes him ideally placed to establish and grow this important area of our business. We are delighted to welcome him to Specialty MGA.”
Simon Woodage, Senior Underwriter for North American Property Treaty at Specialty MGA, said:
What attracted me to Specialty MGA was its ambition, energy and can-do attitude. It is a business with a clear vision and the flexibility to adapt quickly when market conditions change. In a cyclical market such as North American Property Treaty, that ability to respond pragmatically is incredibly important.
“The opportunity to build a portfolio from a blank canvas was particularly appealing. We will focus on working with insurers that have genuine expertise in their markets, seek long-term partnerships and recognise the value of reinsurance. While modelling remains an important tool, underwriting judgement and strong relationships will continue to be central to our approach.
