Michael Lewin Solicitors has expanded its employment department as it looks to become less dependant on its personal injury (PI) work.

The predominantly PI firm has struggled in the wake of the reforms, with the referral fee ban hitting its business model hard.

As a result, it has opened several new departments including medical negligence, industrial disease, financial mis-selling, product liability and employment.

Ian Abel joined the firm in June 2013 as the new head of the employment department and has now been joined by his former colleague, Crystal Bolton.

“I am thrilled to have joined Michael Lewin’s Employment Team at such an exciting time," said Bolton.

"I look forward to building and developing the department alongside the existing team; especially with regards to the new MLS Commercial website which focuses on representing companies as opposed to individuals.”
