Ecclesiastical Insurance and Benefact Group have continued a charitable tradition for the fifth consecutive year, donating £1 million to various charities through the Movement for Good awards.
This year, nominations were opened to the public, leading to 150 charities receiving grants of £1000. Over 800 brokers took part in nominating charities, resulting in a wide range of organisations being put forward. These included: Bipolar UK LTD, a London-based support organisation for individuals with bipolar disorder, Gloucestershire Nightstop, who provide emergency accommodation for 16–25-year-olds, and The Saturday Café Club, a Scotland-based organisation which aims to engage young disabled children in activities. These charities were selected due to overwhelming public support.
Since the inception of these awards, nearly two million people have nominated a variety of charities which has had a profound impact on communities nationally. Over five million pounds has been granted to provide support to more than 2500 charities.
Over 15,000 charitable causes in the UK and Ireland received votes this year, and more than 245,000 nominations were sent in. In 2023, 420 charities will receive £1,000 donations to their cause, with another 40 organisations receiving £5,000 through special grants. Selecting the charities is made fair due to considering the frequency of their nominations when selecting the successful candidates. Later in the year, an additional £500,000 will be donated in larger amounts to continue supporting these organisations. Throughout the year Ecclesiastical and the Benefact Group plan on donating additional gifts.
Richard Coleman, Managing Director at Ecclesiastical, expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the support of our broker partners and customers, we’re delighted to announce the second 150 winning charities who will each receive £1,000 as part of our Movement for Good Awards. As part of Benefact Group’s family of businesses, our charitable purpose makes us so much more than an insurance company. We’re proud of our reputation as one of the most trusted insurers in our markets, and of the positive impact we make on society, by giving back all of our available profits to good causes.”
