Trethowans partner steps down as President of the Insurance Institute of Southampton

Kelvin Farmaner, a partner at Trethowans Solicitors, has handed over the reins as President of the Insurance Institute of Southampton to Adam Clarke of Ageas Insurance, after 12 months in the role.

The Southampton Insurance Institute has almost 3,000 members and covers a wide geographical area from Portsmouth to Salisbury via Southampton. Dating back more than 100 year, it provides a forum for all those working within the industry to develop their skills, network with other professionals, attend social events and support charities.

Under Farmaner’s guidance, the Institute has started work on new projects, including joint events with The Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and a CPD conference with the Bournemouth Insurance Institute. Over the past year the Institute went on to hold 14 different breakfast and lunchtime seminars.

The best-attended seminar this year was a mock trial held in conjunction with The Bournemouth Insurance Institute and supported by Albion Barristers Chambers in Bristol.

Farmaner says that he was particularly keen to run the event as he had often heard insurance professionals say that their role was not really relevant when it came to trials. However, he said that in his experience, everyone from underwriters, loss adjusters and claims handlers could play a part on the outcome of a trial.
