Woman ‘cuts off’ own hand to make fraudulent claim

A woman in Slovenia has been accused of sawing off her own hand to claim €400,000 (£340,000) in compensation from her insurer.

Police in Slovenia have detained the 21-year-old woman and a relative. They face up to eight years in prison if convicted, BBC News reported.

Having recently taken out an insurance policy, a group of relatives deliberately dismembered the unnamed woman above the wrist at their home in Ljubljana.

They took her to hospital and claimed the woman injured herself while sawing branches.

According to BBC News, the authorities recovered her hand in time to sew it back on.
