Nexus Group brings in van der Veer to manage MGAs

Nexus Group has appointed Marc van der Veer as chief executive officer of European ventures.

He joins from The Ardonagh Group, where he was chief executive officer of international for specialty MGA Geo Underwriting.

In his new role, van der Veer will report to group chief executive officer Colin Thompson.

His main focus will be on pursuing a buy and build strategy for an identified pipeline of niche European specialty MGAs. He will then manage the acquired businesses, which will sit within a new division of Nexus Group.

Van der Veer held a number of senior positions within the insurance industry, including as general manager of Partner Re Wholesale, providing capacity to underwriting agencies for small- and medium-sized entity business.

He was also chief underwriting officer of European specialty at Torus (now StarStone) and was previously managing director of Hiscox Europe.

Van der Veer is already well known to Nexus, having provided underwriting capacity to the group’s financial and professional liability team on two previous occasions, while at Partner Re and Torus.
