Aspen appoints new CEO in UK

Aspen Insurance has appointed Clive Edwards as chief executive officer of its UK arm and managing agency.

Edwards will take over from Mike Cain, who has been appointed to the role of group chief operating officer, as chief executive officer of Aspen Insurance UK Limited (AIUK) and Aspen Managing Agency Limited (AMAL).

Henry MacHale and Jamie Lewis have been made co-chief underwriting officers for AIUK in place of Edwards. They will also continue in their existing roles.

Mark Cloutier, executive chairman and group chief executive officer, commented: “Clive was part of the original team at the outset of Aspen and has continually demonstrated an outstanding capability as an underwriting leader. His proven experience and expertise, and the high esteem in which he is held in the UK market, make him very well qualified to take on these roles.”

Separately, Hannah Purves has been appointed as a non-executive director of AIUK. She will join its board in due course.

Purves was previously a claims director at Markel International with responsibility for a claims team of more than 130 people located throughout Europe, Canada, Asia and Latin America.

She also served as deputy chair of the Lloyd’s Market Association claims committee.

Cloutier commented: “I am delighted to welcome Hannah to Aspen. She has an industry-leading claims reputation which will add further depth to our strategic focus on arguably the most important service that we deliver.”
