CILA elects Steven Wallace as president

The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA) has chosen Steven Wallace, managing director of McLarens UK & EMEA, as its new president during their recent annual general meeting. This significant appointment brings fresh leadership to an institute that plays a vital role in maintaining professional standards in the loss adjusting field.

Wallace, with over 30 years of industry experience, succeeds Dr Marc Sweeney of Davies, who served as president for a year. Wallace’s team includes deputy president Adam Humphrey, CEO of GRS International, and executive director John Bissell, a recent addition to the institute.

“It’s an honour to be elected to become the CILA President for the current term,” said Wallace.

Steven Wallace’s key goals include expanding CILA’s global influence and focusing on specialised areas like aviation, natural resources, and marine sectors. He also aims to increase industry engagement, forging connections with government and policymakers.

In a statement, he stressed the profession’s significance in addressing evolving risks, such as climate change and cyber threats, noting loss adjusters’ crucial role in assisting insurers and policyholders with these challenges and resulting claims.

CILA’s recent annual conference, attended by over 200 loss adjusters, covered critical topics like cyber claims, business interruption, lithium battery fires, aviation claims, and the FCA’s consumer duty.

Steven Wallace’s election reflects a commitment to upholding professional standards and delivering a world-class qualification framework through CILA. With his vast experience and dedication, Wallace is set to lead CILA effectively into the future, ensuring loss adjusters continue to excel in addressing emerging risks.

John Bissell, CILA’s executive director, praised Wallace’s expertise and dedication to the profession. He said, “Steven is a highly respected loss adjusting professional and is a long-standing CILA advocate. Having worked on some of the highest profile losses in the UK, he’s a great example of the benefit and technical expertise that chartered loss adjusters bring both to the insurers and policy holders.

“I would like to thank Marc for his hard work over the past year and look forward to working closely with Steven as we review of our strategic objectives and development plan, to ensure that we are aligned to the needs of our membership.”
