SGI Legal has bought the entire personal injury caseload from Midlands-based firm Challinors for an undisclosed fee.

The acquisition is the first for SGI since it became an alternative business structure (ABS) on 1 August and, according to the firm, will be the first of several over the coming year.

The deal involves no movement of staff, and is for all work in progress in PI including serious injury, Employer's Liability (EL) and Public Liability (PL) claims.

Managing partner Simon Gibson said that the purchase of the work arose due to Challinors’ difficult circumstances.

“We have been pleased to work with the firm’s partnership and the likely administrators to ensure a smooth transition for clients whose best interests will remain our top priority,” he said

“We’ve made no secret of our growth ambitions and have structured our firm to take advantage of developments in the personal injury sector. This will not be our last acquisition.”

SGI Legal, which launched just over a year ago, employs nearly 60 staff, of which only six are qualified lawyers.

The firm focuses upon using technology to drive efficiency in their business and more than 10% of staff are IT specialists.
