AA moves into PI work

The AA has launched a legal services arm which will handle personal injury and other litigation associated with car accidents suffered by AA members and customers.

The new business, to be called AA Law, is a joint venture with Lyons Davidson and will start trading on 1 December 2013 after the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) granted the company an alternative business structure (ABS) licence.

Janet Pell, head of AA Law, said that the formation of a legal arm was a goal that the company had been working towards ever since the ABS model was announced.

“This is a great step forward for the AA," she said.

The breakdown recovery giant says that AA law is a natural fit for its legal helpline and its motor legal expenses policy, which is already supported by Lyons Davidson.

Mark Savill, managing director of Lyons Davidson, welcomed the expanded relationship.

“The ABS will allow us to provide a seamless service for the AA's members should they be in a car accident. It also opens up the opportunity to provide AA members with a wider range of affordable legal services which can be accessed through AA Law,” he said.
