Slater and Gordon restructuring plans are leaked

Details have surfaced of Slater and Gordon’s restructuring plan for its UK office, which indicate that several of the firm’s PI departments are set to shut this year.

The Law Society Gazette  has reported that the struggling Australian firm has opened talks on its offices in Bristol, Halifax, Newcastle and Liverpool while plans have been submitted to close its PI divisions in Birmingham and London. The firm posted a £494 million loss in the second half of 2015 which prompted it to announce that it would close a number of its offices in the UK and reduce its employee headcount.

As well as scaling back its noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) claims, Slater and Gordon is also set to close its Derby base this summer. PI operations are to cease in Preston, Wrexham and Chester.

Cath Evans, the chief executive of personal injury law, and head of HR Rachael Kelly are to return to Australia.

Last month, group general counsel Moana Weir left the firm after having been in the position for less than two months.
