Horwich Farrelly takes on 18 apprentices

Horwich Farrelly, has recruited 18 apprentices, its largest intake since it co-created the UK’s first legal apprentices in 2013.

Fifteen of the new apprentices will work at the firm’s Manchester head office with two in Liverpool and one in London.

The apprentice scheme is also being extended to the firm’s Recoveries team. Currently, apprentices work in its Counter Fraud, Credit Hire and Defendant teams.

The majority of the firm’s apprentices spend time studying with Manchester Metropolitan University.

Horwich Farrelly’s two-year apprenticeship programme combines paid work experience with structured learning and development including an industry-recognised legal qualification.

Rob Barrett, the managing partner of Horwich Farrelly, “This year both the calibre and volume of applicants has been remarkable, with many young people actively seeking out our stand at careers fairs around the country. In fact, whilst our apprenticeship scheme has grown year on year, this is the first time we’ve actually filled our annual quota, as we won’t offer a place if an applicant doesn’t meet the criteria.”

“The most interesting observation has been a sea change in the attitudes of the parents we meet, who are now far more open to apprenticeships being a valid alternative to university.

“We put this down to the significant investment by the Government and training providers in emphasising the benefits of work-based schemes, as well as the work we ourselves have done to promote apprenticeships, such as presenting in local schools and supporting events,” he added.
