BVS launches new division to assist insurers with water damage claims

BVS , the building and contents claim validation company, has launched a new division to assist insurers with water damage claims, where assisted drying and restoration is required.

Called BVS Restore, the division has apparently already received interest from a number of leading insurers.

BVS has worked with national body the BDMA (British Damage Management Association) to develop a structure for claims handlers and surveyors with a focus on water damage claims and drying and restoration techniques. According to the company, three in five property claims are a result of internal water damage and this figure is increasing, due to factors such as changes in construction methods and lifestyle.

It says that by applying BVS Restore – which has a single point of contact for the customer and links with specialist drying contractors – insurers can cut drying cycles by up to 70%, resulting in a vastly increased customer satisfaction whilst reducing overall indemnity spend.

BVS managing director Chris Brown said: “Having worked closely with insurers delivering a much improved claims management and validation service across all perils, we identified that there was a real need for change on claims involving water damage where assisted drying is required.”

“The current approach to the management of this type of claim is particularly fragmented, with the absence of overall ownership and independent validation. This has resulted in long delays and, unnecessary disruption for the customer and in many cases unnecessary strip out works.”
