Exchange Chambers has best month ever

The claimant personal injury department at Exchange Chambers secured more than £50 million for clients with life-changing injuries during November—the team’s best ever performance and highest monthly total.

Settlements during November included £14 million for a 26-year old tetraplegic with traumatic brain injury (Will Waldron QC and Mark Mulrooney), and £13.25 million for a 21-year old with severe spinal injury (Bill Braithwaite QC and Chris Barnes).

The department also secured £11 million for a 24-year old with severe brain injury (Gerard Martin QC), as well as numerous awards of between £1 and £5 million.

Commenting on the team’s success, head of chambers Bill Braithwaite QC (pictured) said: “November has been the best month in our history for high value, personal injury settlements. Our silks and juniors have settled complex claims across the whole of England and Wales.”

Earlier this year, Chris Gutteridge of Exchange Chambers secured significant settlements for two claimants after being instructed by Thompsons Solicitors.

The first case involved a boy, now 10, who suffered a hypoxic brain injury due to the negligent management of his mother’s labour. Gutteridge secured compensation of £4.5 million plus annual payments reaching over £190,000 for the boy. The combined payments will pay for work on his home and professional care which will continue for the rest of his life. The settlement received High Court approval in September.

In the second case, the barrister obtained a significant sum in compensation for a Royal Marine who saw his leg amputated after a car crash.
