FOIL establishes new cyber and digital liabilities team

The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) has launched a new team charged with understanding the opportunities and challenges brought about by digital technology.

FOIL’s new cyber and digital liabilities sector focus team will consider the impact of cyber and digital risks, as well as the risks posed by autonomous vehicles, drones, artificial intelligence, robotics and the internet of things.

The new team will facilitate training and events, spearhead campaigns, act as a thought leader and demonstrate expertise to non-members and potential clients.

Kurt Rowe (pictured) at Weightmans will lead the new cyber and digital liabilities team, with Helen Bourne at Clyde & Co as deputy.

Commenting on the launch of the new team at FOIL, Rowe said there is a need for improved understanding within the market about the benefits of cyber insurance and the range of risks such insurance can cover.

FOIL launched a new regulatory team last year to concentrate on health and safety compliance and the defence of Health and Safety Executive prosecutions. The association has almost 30 such teams.

The association also launched a new division last year to support the insurance and reinsurance law firms and lawyers working in the London and Lloyd’s market.
