Clyde & Co has appointed Andrew Yarwood as a partner in its London marine cargo group.
Yarwood joins from Kennedys, where he specialised in marine insurance, advising cargo insurers on disputes arising out of the carriage of goods by sea.
He regularly advises insurers on liability and coverage issues, including drafting policy wordings and acts for cargo insurers in defending claims for salvage and general average as well as pursuing recoveries against shipowners arising out of casualties at sea.
Before qualifying with Waltons & Morse in 2012, he had a career in international sales and as a claims handler on the Spanish and South American desks of the Britannia P&I Club.
Andrew Nicholas, partner at Clyde & Co, said of his Yarwood’s appointment: “We are delighted to have Andrew on board as he is truly immersed in the marine insurance market in London while his international experience further strengthens our global offering. He is a good fit for Clyde & Co thanks to his international mindset and ability to collaborate across teams.”
Yarwood said: “I am thrilled to be joining Clyde & Co. The firm has a strong marine heritage and a world-class reputation worldwide in delivering leading work in an industry that has seen radical changes in recent times. I look forward to contributing to the team’s success and playing a part in the firm’s growth.”
Clyde & Co’s marine practice is made up of more than 150 lawyers across 46 offices. It provides expertise to clients throughout the entire maritime industry: insurers, trading companies, owners, charterers, P&I clubs, shipbuilders, salvors, financial institutions, port authorities and governments.
In 2016, the marine cargo team in London and Guildford was boosted with the hire of Chris Pratts as partner, alongside and Cameron Boyd, a junior associate.
Last year, the firm promoted Emma Rice to partner in its Manchester office, where the marine team now numbers over 10. Nationally the team has hired a number of associates from other marine firms in recent months.
Nicholas added: “We expect further hires in the near future as we continue our strategy of remaining the preeminent firm for marine insurance.”
