Mike Crane, managing director of LV=’s broker division, is succeeding Steve Maddock as chairman of the board at the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
Crane has been a member of MIB’s board since 2018, playing a key part in the development of organisation’s long-term strategy.
He brings more than 30 years of insurance industry experience to the role of chairman, having worked at LV= as well as L&G General Insurance.
He has also been heavily involved in business transformation with the successful transfer of portfolios from Allianz and Legal & General, has executive responsibility for diversity and inclusion for LV= General Insurance and is an engagement board member (personal lines) of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Commenting on his appointment as chairman of the MIB board, Crane said: “It is a huge privilege to take over the chair from Steve, I am looking forward to working with [MIB chief executive] Dominic and the team as the MIB continues to evolve and adapt to meet the future needs of our members and customers.”
Crane replaces Direct Line Group’s Steve Maddock, who has led the MIB board since 2014.
Under Maddock’s oversight, MIB embarked on its most significant period of transformation in its history. To date, this work has delivered a substantial programme of technological and cultural developments to benefit the people and organisations MIB supports.
Maddock said: “It’s been a great honour serving as chairman at the MIB and I am proud of all we have achieved over the last seven years. The MIB are at the forefront of tackling uninsured driving and I am pleased to say have made a lot of progress in this area. It gives me great pleasure to pass the baton over to Mike who brings with him a wealth of experience and who I am confident will serve the members and customers well”.
MIB’s chief executive, Dominic Clayden, said: “I’m delighted that Mike has accepted the challenge to keep pushing us to evolve so we can best support the industry and fulfil our ambitions to make roads safer, help innocent victims of uninsured and hit-and-run drivers rebuild their lives, and protect people from insurance fraud.”
“I’d also like to thank Steve for his contribution to everything we have achieved together. MIB has progressed considerably during his time as chair, and the board, ExCo and everyone at MIB is extremely grateful to him for that.”
