Fletchers Group acquires medical negligence firm in Leeds

Fletchers Group has acquired Minton Morrill, the Yorkshire law firm specialising in complex medical negligence claims.

Leeds-based Minton Morrill has represented clients in high value medical negligence claims, often involving brain injury, for more than 30 years. All members of the firm, including directors Simon Minton, Julia Morrill and Sahida Patel, will remain with the business under new ownership.

Peter Haden, chief executive of Fletchers Group, said the deal will enable Fletchers to leverage the reputation of Minton Morrill for its work in serious medical negligence injury: “Simon Minton (managing director) and his team are highly respected across the sector, and have delivered exceptional results for their clients in high value medical negligence cases, especially birth injuries, where they have an outstanding reputation.”

Fletchers will retain the Minton Morrill brand and office in Leeds, while bringing new investment into the law firm to help it to become one of the leading specialist clinical negligence practices nationwide.

The acquisition will also see Fletchers strengthen its own footprint in the Leeds area, part of an expanding portfolio of locations.

Haden said: “The combination of talent at Minton Morrill and Fletchers will give all our existing and potential clients across the UK a high calibre team of legal professionals working on their behalf.”

“We have made clear our intention to acquire businesses which fit our strategy and enhance our pool of talent in medical negligence, and Minton Morrill is a perfect fit for us in this respect, as well as giving Fletchers a long-awaited presence in Leeds, an area known for its legal talent.”

Minton commented: “Peter painted a compelling picture of the opportunity for us as part of Fletchers, and we are excited by the prospect of being part of a growing and expanding business.”

“We felt that we would benefit from being part of a bigger group in order to push on to the next level of growth.”

“I am convinced that Fletchers Group will be the best possible custodians for our brand, our people and most importantly, our clients.”

The acquisition is the second for Fletchers since it was bought by private equity firm Sun Capital in October last year. The first acquisition was Cycle SOS, the national cycle claims law firm, in May 2022.

Haden added: “The outlook for consolidation in serious injury is positive. We remain keen to talk to vendors looking to create value from their life’s work and either retire or, like Minton Morrill, aim for further growth and success as part of a larger group.”

“Sun Capital continues to be supportive of our growth aspirations and is focused on helping us invest to build scale and capability. Our pipeline is strong and I’m confident that we will bring more deals to completion over the next few months.”
