MIB appoints Aviva’s Andrew Wilkinson as new chief claims officer

MIB has appointed Andrew Wilkinson as its new chief claims officer.

Wilkinson, who spent 25 years at Aviva, will join MIB this summer. He is the final addition to a series of senior leadership appointments announced in September last year as part of the not-for-profit’s aim to increase its benefit to the insurance industry and partners.

Since then, James Dalton, Kjirste Coltham and Chris Makomereh have joined MIB.

The senior claims role was created to provide dedicated focus on managing and developing MIB’s largest operation, which sees more than 26,000 claims from victims of uninsured and hit-and-run drivers each year.

MIB’s primary function is to compensate those who have suffered a loss because of an uninsured or hit-and-run driver—insurers are obliged to be members of the organisation and fund its work.

The not-for-profit also partners with the police and government to reduce uninsured driving and make roads safer.

On top of these functions, the organisation runs the Insurance Fraud Bureau and Official Injury Claim portal.

Andrew Wilkinson

Wilkinson joins MIB after 25 years at Aviva. He was a driving force in the insurer’s successful campaign for personal injury reform and most recently served as its technical claims director.

He will sit on the MIB’s executive team, reporting to chief executive Dominic Clayden.

Clayden said: “We’re delighted to have appointed Andrew to the role of chief claims officer. Last year we had the opportunity to rethink the type of executive leadership function we want for the future, as we continue to build an organisation that is seen by the industry as not only relevant, but invaluable.

“Andrew will bring a huge amount of experience, insight and challenge to how we manage claims quickly, fairly and compassionately. We’re delighted to have him on board.”
