Allianz supports apprentices with car repair charity project

Allianz UK is launching a vehicle-repair project to support apprenticeships and highlight the benefits of using recycled parts when repairing damaged cars.

The project – which underscores Allianz’s commitment to skills development and sustainability initiatives – will see motorshop apprentices repair a damaged vehicle that will be sold at auction with proceeds donated to charity.

The initiative involves repurposing a Category N total loss vehicle that had been previously settled by Allianz. The vehicle is to be repaired at a dedicated Allianz sole site with the Vella Group, one of the UK’s leading independent accident repair groups, using predominantly recycled parts. The work will be carried out by apprentices under the expert supervision of Vella Group qualified technicians.

Once fully restored and certified for safety and quality, the vehicle will be auctioned through Allianz’s salvage partner, IAA. The funds raised will be donated to Barnardo’s, a long-standing partner of Allianz.

Repair work will begin in August 2026, and the car will be auctioned in September.

Michael Golding, motor network manager at Allianz UK, said:

“This project is a good example of how Allianz is embedding sustainability and social responsibility. By repairing and repurposing a vehicle that would otherwise have been sent to salvage, we’ve not only reduced waste but also created opportunities for apprentices to develop critical skills.

“Most importantly, the funds raised will make a meaningful difference to social causes. We’re incredibly proud of what this initiative has achieved and grateful to our repair and supply chain partners for their support.”

Marc Holding, Vella Group CEO, said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase both apprenticeships and sustainable repairs, while supporting an amazing charity. We’re proud to be part of this innovative project with Allianz, which

demonstrates how strong partnerships can drive real progress for our industry. By bringing together skills, sustainability, and collaboration, we’re helping to develop the next generation of technicians while highlighting what’s possible through more sustainable repair methods.”

Sarah Hirst, UK Commercial Director at IAA, said:

“We’re delighted to play our part in this sustainability initiative alongside Allianz and Vella Group. By bringing the restored vehicle to auction, we’re helping maximise both the value of the asset and its positive impact, supporting the important work carried out by Barnardo’s. This project is a great example of how collaboration, sustainability and innovation can create lasting value for both communities and the wider industry.”

Lynn Perry, chief executive of Barnardo’s, said:

“A huge thank you to our partner Allianz UK for donating the proceeds of this fantastic project towards Barnardo’s, helping us to make sure children and young people are happier, healthier, and safer.

“We know that employment is a big concern for young people right now, so it is especially encouraging that Allianz is supporting apprenticeships for this project.”
