ARAG Group has finalised the acquisition of DAS UK, a legal protection insurance firm based in the United Kingdom.
At present, DAS UK will operate independently from ARAG Group’s existing managing general agent (MGA), ARAG plc. Together, the two companies boasted a gross written premium of approximately £190 million and a workforce of around 800 employees in 2022.
After completing the acquisition, ARAG Group plans to establish a new executive management committee (EMC) for ARAG UK, pending regulatory approval. This committee will consist of seven members: three from ARAG plc, three from DAS UK, and one from the broader ARAG Group.
Tony Buss is set to lead the EMC as CEO. Tony Coram, former CEO of DAS UK, will assume the role of COO.
Dr. Renko Dirksen, speaker of the board of management of ARAG SE, stated, “This is an important moment for our group as we continue to deliver against our strategy for growth and expansion in key international markets.”
Tony Buss, CEO of ARAG UK, emphasised the positive outcomes of the acquisition, noting, “This development will bring benefits to all our stakeholders. It will allow us to share knowledge and skills, and to bring new ideas, products, and services to our customers, including further digitalisation of our offering.”
Tony Coram, COO of ARAG UK, added, “This marks the start of a strong new partnership – one underpinned by experience, great people, and a deep understanding of legal insurance.”
This acquisition follows ARAG Group’s previous expansions, including the acquisition of DAS UK’s Republic of Ireland branch in 2019 and ERGO Group’s DAS business in Canada in 2021.
