Markerstudy’s annual charity challenge has achieved a milestone this year, raising over £48,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, nearly doubling the previous year’s total of £25,000.
The event, held on 14 June, saw 47 colleagues, including members of the senior leadership team, undertake a demanding 12-hour hike through the Peak District, covering either 26 miles or 14 miles and enjoying some of the region’s most breathtaking views.
Earlier this year, Macmillan Cancer Support was selected as Markerstudy’s charity of choice for 2024 through a company-wide vote involving over 600 colleagues. This designation means that all of Markerstudy’s fundraising activities throughout the year will benefit Macmillan, ensuring continuous support for the charity’s vital work. With such a successful start, the partnership promises to make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
Team effort and resilience
Lizzie Smith-Foreman, Markerstudy’s chief marketing, communications, and sustainability officer, expressed her immense pride in the team’s efforts. “I’m so proud of everyone who took part in this year’s challenge. The many hours of training the team put in really paid off as both the terrain and the weather were extremely testing,” she stated.
Smith-Foreman also highlighted the camaraderie and mutual support among the participants, which significantly contributed to the challenge’s success. “It was a great privilege to be involved in my second charity challenge and so rewarding to see our challengers bonding and supporting one another during the day. It’s wonderful to know that we’ve nearly doubled last year’s fundraising figure for a cause that’s close to many of our hearts.”
Supporting Macmillan Cancer Support
The funds raised from the charity challenge will have a significant impact on Macmillan Cancer Support’s services.
Ellie Webb, corporate partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, emphasised the importance of this contribution. “We’re so pleased to be Markerstudy’s charity of choice for 2024, and what a way for them to demonstrate their passion and determination to support our cause – they’ve smashed their initial target of £30,000, and instead raised an astounding £48,000!” she said.
Webb elaborated on the practical implications of the donation, noting, “This amount could help our cancer information and support team run our Macmillan support line phone service for a whole week. In that time, they could deal with more than 2,000 calls and web enquiries from people who want questions answered, or need practical or financial support. Thank you to everyone who took part for their hard work to fundraise, train and complete this amazing challenge!”
