Ken Norgrove, chief executive officer of RSA Insurance UK & International, part of the Intact Group, has been appointed as the new deputy president of the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
His appointment takes effect immediately.
In his new role, Norgrove will collaborate closely with ABI president Tim Bailey, engaging with key stakeholders and acting as a prominent voice for the insurance industry. He will also sit on the ABI’s consumer committee and appointments and remuneration committee.
With over 35 years of experience in the insurance sector, Norgrove has led several high-profile initiatives and business turnarounds, positioning him as a seasoned leader in the field.
Norgrove succeeds Clare Bousfield, former chief executive of retail and savings at M&G plc. Although Bousfield stepped down from her role at M&G in autumn 2023, she remained deputy president of the ABI to support the progress of the ABI’s Investment Delivery Forum. She will continue to contribute to the Forum in the future.
Baroness Nicky Morgan, chair of the ABI, welcomed Norgrove’s appointment, saying, “I’m delighted to announce Ken Norgrove as the new ABI Deputy President. Ken’s insight and experience will be an asset to the organisation as we strengthen our expertise and focus on the commercial insurance sector. From cyber to climate change, he will certainly help steer us through the challenges that lie ahead, which will benefit so many of our members.”
Morgan also thanked Clare Bousfield for her service, particularly in driving the ABI’s Investment Delivery Forum.
Commenting on his new role, Norgrove stated, “The insurance industry plays a vital role underpinning the economic health of the country by enabling people, businesses, and society to prosper in good times and be resilient in bad times. I look forward to bringing my experience from RSA, one of the country’s largest commercial insurers, to help the ABI and our various stakeholders navigate the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
