Adam Humphrey, CEO of CCS & GRS International at Global Risk Solutions, has been elected as the new president of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA).
He takes over from Steven Wallace of McLarens, who served as president for the past year. Humphrey will be supported by Hugh Kennaway of Matthews Daniel, who steps in as deputy president.
As the leading professional body in technical claims, CILA offers a platform for professionals to address challenges like regulatory changes and technology advances, helping its members stay prepared for the demands of the modern claims world.
Planning ahead for CILA
Humphrey’s plans as CILA president include expanding the Institute’s global presence and reinforcing its importance across different areas of claims work.
“Claims now require a multi-disciplinary, collaborative approach,” Humphrey said at CILA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). He highlighted the need for experts like quantity surveyors, engineers, and forensic accountants to work closely with traditional claims professionals, insurers, brokers, and loss adjusters.
With over 20 years in the field, Humphrey has managed complex claims worldwide and held leadership roles in major adjusting firms. He is particularly experienced in energy and construction risks. Humphrey, who began his career in construction law, has been an active CILA member and recently earned an MBA from Henley Business School.
Continuing CILA’s strategic goals
Humphrey’s term will build on the work started by his predecessor, focusing on CILA’s three-to-five-year strategic vision, which aims to keep the profession relevant and trustworthy. This strategy, laid out in CILA’s first-ever Manifesto, emphasizes professional excellence, embracing new technology, and fostering inclusivity and global partnerships. Recently, CILA has been making strides to expand in Africa and the Middle East, strengthening ties with local organisations like the Institute of Loss Adjusters of Southern Africa (ILASA).
“I’m honoured to be elected CILA President,” Humphrey shared. “Steven Wallace set a high standard, and I’m excited to continue his initiatives. The claims world is getting more complex, and professionals from various fields must work together to handle claims efficiently. CILA is relevant not just for traditional loss adjusters but also for engineers, forensic accountants, and in-house claims experts.”
