The £50,000 prize includes £25,000 worth of pro bono UK legal and regulatory advice from Norton Rose Fulbright’s corporate and regulatory insurance team, alongside a potential £25,000 equity investment.

In addition, all applicants will benefit from a 45-minute pro bono legal clinic addressing areas such as corporate structuring, data privacy, intellectual property, and financial services regulation.

Finalists will receive three further 45-minute pro bono legal clinics during the competition day.

The competition is seeking proposals from start-ups and scale-ups focused on areas such as digitalising the insurance value chain through technology like AI, chatbots, IoT, and smart contracts. Other areas of interest include innovations in the commercial reinsurance market, novel platforms using blockchain or other technologies, and products or services that disrupt traditional reinsurance models.

Applications for the 2025 Insurathon close on Thursday 6 February 2025, with finalists announced on Friday 7 February. The competition itself will take place on Thursday 13 February. Interested businesses can find further details and apply through the Norton Rose Fulbright website.

Previous winners of the Insurathon include JustParent, InsurX, ARMD, Riskbook (now Supercede), and Nexus Mutual.

Gilbert Harrap, CEO of InsurX and a past winner, credited the competition for providing pivotal support. He said, “The advice and support we’ve received from Norton Rose Fulbright off the back of winning their Insurathon competition has tangibly helped us turbocharge our growth as the independent digital exchange for the corporate and specialty insurance market. Norton Rose Fulbright’s expertise in supporting multinational insurance corporations all the way down to ambitious start-ups like us is unrivalled.”
