The Insurance Charity unveils new look and expanded support

The Insurance Charity unveils a new name, brand, and policies to support more industry professionals.

The Insurance Charity, the only charity in the UK and Ireland dedicated to helping insurance professionals, has rebranded. It now has a new name, logo, and website designed to raise awareness and make it easier for people to get support.

The Insurance Charity, newly named from ‘The Insurance Charities’, offers financial support and practical guidance to current and former insurance professionals in the UK and Ireland. It offers support such as payments to help professionals with one-off costs like care, funeral expenses, or property adaptations, and ongoing financial support in certain cases such as a loss of income or health condition.

A growing demand for support services for insurance professionals

Initially founded in 1902 as ‘The Insurance Clerks Orphanage’, the charity has grown. In the 2023/24 financial year, the charity awarded £1.4 million (€1.7 million) in aid – an increase from £1.3 million (€1.6 million) the previous year. This rise highlights the growing demand for its services.

Previously known as The Insurance Charities, the organisation has simplified its name to The Insurance Charity. In a major policy shift, it has also removed the length of service requirement for financial assistance. This means more people in the insurance industry can get help when they need it most.

Annali-Joy Thornicroft, CEO of The Insurance Charity, commented, “We have a very proud history of helping so many insurance professionals in need of financial and practical support, and today feels like a new dawn. Our charity is evolving, and it’s important we do so in a way that aligns with the industry and the people within it.”

She added, “We’re excited to take this step forward to help even more people in our brilliant and thriving industry.”

Chairman Josh Brekenfeld added, “It’s important that everyone in the insurance industry – past and present – knows we are here for them. We welcome anyone who has worked in this sector and needs support.”
