Crawford & Company® has announced a partnership with the Community Wood Recycling Project and NFU Mutual to donate 26 habitat boxes, crafted from recycled wood, to Bristol City Council.
Through its Zero to Landfill policy, Crawford® continues to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability, waste reduction, and community engagement. This latest collaboration with the Community Wood Recycling Project (CWRP) — a network of social enterprises that repurposes waste wood while providing training and employment opportunities to disadvantaged individuals — highlights the company’s focus on combining environmental responsibility with social impact. The partnership with CWRP has also earned Crawford a finalist place at the 2025 British Insurance Awards.
The official handover event took place at 13:00 on Thursday 3 April at Gores Park, Bristol. Representatives included:

By joining together reclaimed oak timber from NFU Mutual losses, the project has successfully transformed waste wood into valuable wildlife habitats. This initiative not only prevents the material from being sent to landfill but also enhances local biodiversity by creating safe spaces for wildlife across Bristol.
“Our collaboration with the Community Wood Recycling Project is a perfect example of how sustainability and social impact go hand in hand,” said Paul Lofkin, president, UK & Ireland. “By repurposing materials that would otherwise go to waste, we’re not only reducing our environmental footprint but also supporting valuable local initiatives that help people gain skills and employment.”
Joel Hawkins, agent at NFU Mutual North Somerset and Chew Valley, added: “NFU Mutual has been an active part of communities throughout the UK for more than a century and it’s something that defines us to this day. Standing up for the communities in which we live and work means being a responsible business with an eye on how we impact the world around us, and this is a central aspect of our company strategy. We’re delighted to support this project and pleased that wastage from our claim repairs network is finding a new lease of life providing habitats for local wildlife.”
This initiative reinforces Crawford’s wider commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship. Through projects like this, Crawford continues to embed Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles across all stages of the claims remediation process, helping drive a more sustainable and socially responsible future.
