New fraud detection service askCUE to open for registration from 5 May

It has been announced that the new askCUE personal injury fraud detection service will open for registration from 5 May.

As of 1 June, claimant representatives processing claims covered by the Ministry of Justice’s RTA Protocol will be required to use the service before submitting a Claim Notification Form for a personal injury claim through the Claims Portal.

askCUE will allow solicitors to check their clients’ records held on its database to see if they relate to any personal injury or industrial illness incidents that have already been reported to insurance companies.

The service, which has been designed as part of recent updates to the Civil Procedure Rules, has been worked on for the last four years by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB), the Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS), the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), and the Law Society.

Firms are being urged to get their registration completed early to avoid a last minute rush.

James Dalton, director of general insurance policy at the ABI, said that askCUE was a significant step forward in the fight against fraud.

“[This] is a tangible demonstration of what can be achieved when our sectors work together. There’s plenty that we disagree on, but getting the fraudsters and cheats out of the personal injury claims system is something we all agree on,” he said.”

Susan Brown, the chair of MASS, echoed Dalton’s sentiments, saying: “This is an important first step in greater collaboration across the industry and we look forward to actively exploring how further data sharing might contribute to the fight against fraudulent claims.”
