Simpson Millar celebrates 2025 promotions with new partner and senior appointments

Firm recognises standout contributions across clinical negligence, public law and family teams

National law firm Simpson Millar has announced its 2025 promotions, recognising the exceptional talent and commitment of its people. The latest round includes a new partner, four senior associates and three associates—demonstrating the firm’s continued investment in professional growth and legal excellence.

Kelly Withers, based in Liverpool, has been promoted to partner within the clinical negligence team. With more than a decade of experience, Kelly is well-known for her work on complex and high-value claims, including birth injuries, brain and spinal damage, surgical errors and fatal cases. She is widely respected for her compassionate client care and legal expertise, recently securing a £15 million settlement for a child injured at birth due to negligent care.

Four colleagues have been promoted to senior associate, recognising their leadership and specialist knowledge:

  • Kate McCue, team leader, clinical negligence

  • Lucy Atherton, team leader, education, community & residential (ECR)

  • Nathalie Swanwick, team leader, abuse

  • Sean Harrison, solicitor, child care proceedings

The associate promotions include:

  • Joshua Hurst, abuse team

  • Sarah Warburton, child care proceedings

  • Sinead Jest, child care proceedings

In addition, Lidia Foster has returned from maternity leave to resume her role as partner in the child care team, following her promotion in 2024.
